‘Something True or Very Close to the Truth’ is a series of reverse applique quilted windows.

In the reverse applique technique layers of coloured cloth are sewn together, then as parts of the top are cut through, the layers underneath become visible and reveal the design. Cloth’s relationship with skin and the human body is accentuated by the choice and position of colours.

The design is a window motif that can refer to different architectural periods and cultural histories, including those inherited by colonisation or adopted to move beyond the culture of the colonisers. This work explores the slippage in the interpretation of culturally grounded imagery.
