Wordless Geometries, 2018

Etching for CommUnity Print Exchange, an international printmaking exchange edition organised by Asmaa M Hashmi in 2018. The resulting boxed editions were exhibited at Magdalen Road Studios, Oxford Printmakers Cooperative and Wolfson College, Oxford.

'Wordless geometries' is a bichromatic etching, as part of the visual investigation using the envelope motif. Standing for everything that surrounds, but is not, words, envelopes still remind us of embodied communication, where presence, warmth and haptics play a key role in understanding and getting our point across. What are the effects of communicating through textual language, using disembodied technology and being connected on a global scale? How does it affect local, small scale, one to one, non verbal communication? Where does a community dwell?
